Microsoft's Courier

A good friend of mine recently sent me a link, a link that I chose to ignore and then regretted as I wish I had seen this sooner. The link was for a first look at the Microsoft's Courier, now I must be slipping a bit in my old age as I had never heard of this thing, I'm putting it down to having "Apple" shaped blinkers on, I've been so interested in what one company was up to that I missed something amazing from someone else. Now this thing is being touted as a "digital journal" but for someone like me it could easily be a "digital sketchbook" the courier looks like an amazing piece of kit and if it works as well as the videos after the jump show I'll be buying it on day one. The courier is a duel screen multi-touch device that also has a Wacom style pen, it's going to have a built in camera and headphone jack for media playback, there is also full web browsing functionality, the interface is pen-based and centered around drawing and writing, with handwriting recognition... I could rant on and on but ill let you see for your self.

My favourite gadget site Engadget has two HD videos of the device and you can see them HERE.

iPad?

All the rumours were true then it seems, at Apples keynote yesterday Steve Jobs took to the stage and announced the iPad, now don't get me wrong I love my Apple tech but something just seemed to disappoint me about this. Now this thing looks great and I've seen the videos of its performance, everything works as it should, the screen is great, its super fast blah blah blah, but all I keep thinking is "I already have an iPhone?" Maybe I'm just being stupid here but I was expecting a proper tablet Mac running a real OS but instead we get a "tablet" that needs a Sim card? It doesn't even make calls, granted that’s only on the Wi-Fi + 3G models, but still it seems something just isn't quite right. I have three apple products and they are all great, but the iPad is one I will not be wasting money on...though I would still like to have a play with one.

Apple of my eye.

Tuesday 27th January, apple conference day and we all know what that means. Today at 6pm (UK) we find out if all these rumours that have been flying around the Internet have any truth to them, I for one hope they do. I was a late bloomer to the Apple scene always holding strong to the thought in my mind that the PC was superior, I’ve since grown up and have been a full convert to the cause. Come 6pm this evening you can bet like any geek out there I will be glued to the live feeds hoping that these rumours come to fruition.
